Fundamental Movement Skills Week at SJS
Fundamental Movement skills (FMS) are the basic movements associated with human physical activity. These include skills such as running, jumping, throwing, skipping and hopping amongst others. Over time, as children develop, they start to sequence skills into more sophisticated movement patterns including sports specific skills.
At SJS, we integrate the development of FMS into all PE lessons to develop competence and confidence, so children can expand their love for movement and be physically active for life.
This week, we have had a FMS focus week where PE lessons have included skill development circuits. The children have really enjoyed their lessons and we look forward to applying these skills into more complex sessions throughout the term.
